Just for future reference and baby's first year books: Cubling decided to reach three milestones in one day, today that is. Her interest in ripping apart newspaper made her pull herself up to standing, after starting the day by sitting up herself for the first time. I was very surprised about the standing bit, because she still tiptoes and I thought it would take her a good while yet.

She's also discovered the skill of dropping items intentionally. That's the funny thing, you get to become an expert on developmental stages whether you like it or not. Apparently, at first, babies learn to grab and hold on to something. It's only much later that they learn how to drop things. Now Cubling has been able to drop things for a while, usually when she loses interest in them, which is quite soon after grabbing them. However, as of today, she drops items not because she has lost interest, but because she's discovered that dropping can be of interest. Watching the carrot fall and land on the carpet for example. It just adds a lovely touch to the otherwise boring carpet pattern. Getting daddy to pick up the piece of bread she dropped, only to drop it again, follow its path and look up to daddy with a "da" and pointing finger to play the charm card and get him to pick it up for the 371st time. This, believe me, is qualitatively miles different to just dropping things or swiping them away.

She's grasped that she can explore and manipulate the world.
